At Hemel Conservatives, we are deeply concerned by the rising tide of fly-tipping across our town and in Bovingdon, Chipperfield and Flaunden.
Residents are rightly frustrated. From dumped household waste in residential areas, to construction debris in rural lanes, the same hotspots are being targeted time and again, blighting our countryside and residential streets alike. This is not just unsightly, it is criminal and unacceptable.
Fly-tipping harms wildlife, creates health risks, and costs local taxpayers thousands each year, money that should be spent on frontline services, not clearing up illegal dumping. It also undermines pride in our communities and the character of the places we call home.
Councillor Neil Harden, Dacorum Borough Councillor for Hemel Town, said: “Fly-tipping is a selfish and illegal act that damages our environment and costs residents dearly. This is not just an issue for our more remote and rural areas, increasingly, residents in the town centre are reporting incidents in alleyways and communal areas. We are determined to crack down on offenders and ensure those responsible are held to account.”
We believe enough is enough. We are calling for tougher enforcement, more CCTV in known hotspots, and stronger action to catch and punish offenders. Those who damage our area in this way must face real consequences.
But we all have a role to play. Always use a licensed waste carrier and check their credentials, if your rubbish is dumped illegally, you could still be held responsible.
We commend local volunteers who help keep our area clean, organising litter picks and reporting incidents. Their efforts are invaluable, but they should not be left to pick up the pieces of others’ criminal behaviour.
We will continue to stand up for our communities and push for real, practical action to tackle fly-tipping across Hemel and our villages.
If you see it, report it to Dacorum Borough Council or let us know about it with as much detail as possible.
Let’s send a clear message to those responsible: fly-tipping will not be tolerated.
