Championing Early Years Education in Hemel Hempstead

A strong start in life sets the foundation for lifelong success, and here in Hemel Hempstead, we are proud to have a fantastic network of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) providers, nurseries, and pre-schools helping our youngest residents to thrive.

From nurturing curiosity to building confidence and social skills, EYFS education plays a vital role in giving children the best possible start. These early years are when minds grow fastest, when communication and creativity flourish, and when values like kindness, resilience and respect begin to take root.

Supporting Families and Building Futures

Our nurseries, pre-schools and childminders across Hemel and the villages are not just childcare providers, they are educators, mentors and champions for local families. Through the EYFS framework, they deliver high-quality early education that supports every child’s development across key areas: communication and language, physical development, personal and social growth, and early literacy and numeracy.

By investing in early education, we support parents too, giving them the confidence and flexibility to work, train, or study, knowing their children are in caring, capable hands. It’s an investment in families, opportunity, and community wellbeing.

Local Excellence Worth Celebrating

Across Hemel, we are fortunate to have so many dedicated early years professionals, from long-established nurseries to innovative pre-schools and childminders, all contributing to the life of our town. Their work underpins our local economy and strengthens community bonds.

Recently, Councillors Fiona Guest and Heather Pound visited Bam & Tatas Nursery and Pre-School, which is now up and running at the Rossgate shops in Gadebridge. They were delighted to see first-hand the enthusiasm of the staff and the warm, welcoming environment being created for local children and families. New providers like Bam & Tatas are helping to expand choice for parents and enhance access to early education right in the heart of our community.

Councillor Fiona Guest said “it’s wonderful to see a new nursery like Bam & Tatas opening right here in Rossgate, providing a caring, creative space where children can learn and grow. Early years education is so important, it gives children the best start in life and supports local parents too. We’re proud to see such passion and dedication from our local providers.”

A Conservative Commitment to Early Years

Nationally and locally, Conservatives are committed to securing maximum investment in Early Years education, recognising that funding in these crucial first years delivers lifelong benefits for children, families and communities. By ensuring that every pound spent supports quality, accessibility and sustainability, we can give every child the best start, regardless of background.

We continue to champion increased funding for EYFS providers, improved training and career development for early years professionals, and stronger support for nurseries and pre-schools across Hemel. Investing in our youngest learners today means a brighter, fairer and more successful tomorrow for all.

Looking Ahead

As we look to the future, it’s clear that the work done in our nurseries and pre-schools today will shape our town of tomorrow. Confident, curious and caring children grow into the responsible citizens, entrepreneurs and leaders of the next generation.

So to all our EYFS providers, teachers, and childcare professionals, thank you. Your work is at the heart of our community, and we are proud to champion you.
